Welcome to my site, it’s only been about 20 years in the making. My interests and direction has changed over the years but I have always held onto this domain as “tanfa” is a name that in used in my early “internet” years as a nickname on forums.
So this site is going to be a bit of a mashup – mainly family history and stories that I’ve come across in the last 20 years or so.
I took up family history research after finding my father-in-laws hand-written notes in the loft, sadly after he died, he would love this new age of discovery!
I myself have Irish and Scottish roots, (hence the Celtic Roots tree name) with a wee bit of English smattered in there. My mum is English, her father was Scottish. I live in Scotland have done since about the age of 6 and I find it amazing how small a world it is. My hubby is Scottish through and through. My father is Irish but we think Scottish originated. Irish roots are not the easiest to research
I tend to get lost in rabbit holes when it comes to family stories and Scottish history in general, having travelled most of Scotland while camping and caravanning.
I like super stories no matter if they are my family or not and have a passion for trying to put together the local (Aberdeenshire, Morayshire, Banffshire) families that many of our overseas cousins want to be related to. I’ve “met” many wonderful like minded people along the way and will link to their sites along the way.
I apologise in advance if you come across something on this site you think is not “right” as I do try to make sure there is a source to back up the story/lineage. Please do feel free to contact me if you have further information and/or sources or information as this is going to be journey of collaboration as much as it is “mine”.
